Just an update……Sometimes I wonder.

Hey guys,

I know I have not been posting on my thoughts in a while. I actually have been pretty busy preparing for my class I am teaching this summer.  In my free time I was reading, typing up presentation paperwork, promoting, and researching the material I am teaching.  The course is called Generation Change.

Generation Change is a teenage financial course that introduces the importance of money and how to properly manage it.  But, there seems to be one obstacle that most people cannot seem to overcome.  Now, I was promoting so I contacted well over 100 plus parents,  sent out group e-mails  and stopped parents in stores to introduce myself and my class.

I have reviewed this course and it has some sound financial advice to live a debt free lifestyle.  Basically meaning, the need of borrowing money is not an option for those who follow this course.

But there is a catch……

Shhhhhh………….. Don’t be afraid.  It talks about the Bible. AAAGAHGAHGHAGAHHGGHHHHHHHHHHH.  Now I understand when you believe or not believe. That is the journey you are on.  That is your right as a free willed individual.  But to deny your children a chance to learn about personal finance, I am sorry. I consider that sort of narrow minded.  If you feel I am picking on you,   Take a number.  :)  About 60% of all parents I contacted stated that the religious aspect was not what they wanted their children exposed to.  The other   40% was from a list of my church congregation.  It really dissapointed me because of one detail. they denied their children an opportunity to learn.

I just had to get that off my chest.  The more I learn about finance the more I see how messed up our country is.  It is like we are enjoying a poopy diaper.  “Yes I soiled my drawers but it is nice and warm and it is mine!”  (Those of you who know that quote will understand my point)  You have to change your point of view and adjust as you grow.  If we stay the same all throughout our lives we basically stop growing.  For those of you who politely declined my class. Thank you for your hospitality.  For the rest who were rude, obnoxious, and pretty much ignorant.  Thank you for your time as well.

I still have 3 - 4 openings for my course.  If you wish to sign your teenager up, please send me an e-mail.  Either on here or  for those who are my friends on Facebook, send me a message there.    The course is though the summer.  Class one was today (Jun 3rd 2012)  It will be on Sundays from 3-5pm at my home in the Laveen area. (Laveen, AZ)

God bless,

Be smart. Be Frugal.  Be a better you.

Service. What is your method?

Hey guys,

I just got home from a semi busy day.  Two 8th grade promotions and a meeting at my church.  We were at a restaurant.  I just thought of this question.  How much do you tip your servers?

I mean,  I can’t say this for every waiter/waitress but most hourly wages for these employees are below minimum wage.  This means they predominantly live on their tips to live their life.  So, I personally tip based on service.  Tonight our waitress was very good.  If I had more cash available to spend I would have tipped her more but I just did 18% plus 5 dollars.

But what is your habit? Do you leave a couple of bucks? Do you leave nothing? Do you base it on service?

Years ago I was in a Denny’s There was no one in the restaurant at the time.  And this waiter gave us the worst service I have ever had.  What did I do? I answered their crappy service with a lousy tip.  I basically grabbed the change in my pocket and left it on the table and walked out.  I did not feel bad.  There was no refills. They never asked us if we needed anything else.  Basically ordered our drinks, he came back took our order.  Brought the food and never returned until he decided to give us our check.  On the opposite spectrum I have tipped as much as 40.00 for great service.

But I am curious since the majority on tumblr are college students and highschool students.  How do you tip?

Try it again….. Payday Lenders.

Okay!

I hope my whole message is able to be posted this time.  Good Morning Everyone! Happy Saturday.  I just want to share something that upset me a while ago.  On my way home from I don’t remember where, I drove down central ave through south phoenix where my mom lives.  It was late at night.  So it was dark, hardly anyone on the road and I kept seeing these neon signs stand out to me.  It was from all of these payday lender locations.  And it saddens me there were a lot of them.

So, here is one of the poorer sides of town. (Thanks Ed Pastor! Your bus station looks nice.)  And what do I see on every corner? A payday lender.  If you go to these rip off establishments please! Train yourself to not feel the need to go to them.  These are a predatory type of establishment that preys on the poor and lower middle class.  They charge you rip off fees to cash your checks.  They provide loans that exceed 100% interest.  Oh! And you can risk you mode of transportation as well by just getting a title loan which is also well over 100%.

I am sorry.  If I ever found out one of my family members graces these establishments with their presence I will have to B*&$%@ slap them a few times. (Where’s my powder!)  I have seen the damage they have caused with a few friends of mine and some exes.  (Pay your bills! I don’t want any more collector calls.)The psychological circle it causes is pathetic.

I need money! I write a post dated check and then they deduct it a week later from my account.  Then I am not responsible with my money and write another check. They charge me another fee I cannot pay until one week I have no check at all.  It all goes to the payday lender. In fees that equal around 300% interest.  WAKE UP!!!!!

Then you take out a loan instead using your vehicle and then get charged more interest in the 100% PLUS RANGE. Slowly you get deeper and deeper in a mess till one day the collectors come and call you.  Great life huh?  You have no money and a repoed car.  These are not establishments to help the needy.  They are predators and need to be kept at a safe distance.

It just makes me sad.  The place where I grew up has all these places that just rob the people in the neighborhood.  The lines are always long I notice as well.  Until more people like me stand up and educate their families there is going to be a lot of foolish transactions where more money is leaving you than you bring in.

Take care of yourselves.  And stay away from these places.  If you know me personally and have a habit of using these places and have no clue how to get away, give me a call.

Be Smart. Be frugal. Be a better you.

What are you afraid of?

Good Morning guys!

I have the luxury of waking up to an empty nest. The kids stayed at their nanas last night. Other than some back pain. A good day so far.

So, the question on my mind today is “Are you afraid of doing something, anything, that would make it better for you?”

Everyday, I witness people given opportunities to become better people.

Offer of a new job.

Learning a new point of view.

possibility of working for yourself.

becoming a better parent.

Becoming a better spouse.

Unfortunately, a lot of those opportunities a not taken advantage of.  We are afraid.  That fear of the unknown kinda makes us like a deer in headlights. “SPLAT!”

But what are some ways to overcome that fear?

1. Education.

Learning about the situation in detail and the pluses and minuses in time will overcome that whole headlights feeling.  Me for example.  I needed a way to get my family out of our financial mess.  Now I am hooked on finance and learning all the points of view as well as helping others where I can.  :) What is your passion?  Educate yourself on every aspect.

2. Positive thunking (I mispelled on purpose)

Thinking more optimistically and seeing everything as a hidden opportunity is a great way to overcome your doubts and shortcomings. Need help?  Seek the assistance of a coach that can help open those new thoughts.  The brain is a very powerful asset or a major blockade.  Learn to break down those walls. My life coach was just books. Reading reading more audio and more reading.  What is your coach?

3. Prepare

Writing down your thoughts and goals is a very useful tool.  Periodically I run numbers of our current goal. How long to save up for our home? And we are still on track for 2013.  It is a motivator.  What is your goal?  Write it down.  Write what you need to do in small easy to reach steps.  Then give yourself time frames to reach those goals. When you structure and plan for your future any mishap is just a minor detour. Go through those orange cones then get back on your road.  The goal is still the destination instead of just a dream.

WRITE IT DOWN….

Although this has worked for me personally.  It might not work for you.  If this doesn’t, seek out more ways to make your situations better.  Never stop learning.  The moment you stop learning is the moment you stop growing.

Any comments please feel free to share on facebook or here below or in my message tab.

What do you think?

Be smart, be frugal, be a better you.

A question…..?

I had a question asked not too long ago.

Maybe some of you can assist them as well….. Please make any productive comments that can assist in their goal.

Thank you,

Richard

  • I have another idea…

What if I started a small catering type business?
Put out flyers or an ad asking ppl if they need dinner made or small parties… that way I can get “established” like the bank keeps saying needs to be done… then I can reach for our true dream of owning a restaraunt. I would have to get a business license and health permit… perhaps even sherriffs card to let ppl feel a little more safe with me coming into their homes.

Let me know what you think.

    My reply……….

  • Catering……. The main question. What do you want? If catering can answer that and your cooking is really the bomb! By all means go for it. Look at all your factors before you jump in. what will you need to start? How much will supplies cost? How can I reduce those expenses? How much should I charge? Should I cater to every order or have set menus? What should our uniforms look like? And keep asking questions to yourself. Answer everything possible on paper to see the reality of what you are getting into. And remember…… Can I make a profit and feed my family while also supplying the business? Where do I store my supplies? Catering is alot of communication. You need to learn how to sell. Reach out to where the customers needs are. How can I help you today? Listen to their stories and already have a plan of what everything you provide costs. Portfolios of your plates and what you serve will be good. add that to expenses. I can go on and on. But this should start your brainstorming. I am almost debt free and my rental business can hit it off within 6 years. If I can do it you can do it.  I wish you many successes. plan plan plan. Winston Churchill I believe once said. Plans will need to change but planning is priceless.

Remember if at all possible, avoid loans. That is the curse of small business. The bank owns your business then. Not you. Taking your profit in the form of interest payments.

    You can do this?

    Richard

  • SO, If anyone can provide any vital information to assist, I know they will appreciate it. Any assistance? Please be courteous and not negative.  Reply on my facebook page or my tumblr website. Have a great day!

Man you are so good at failing??!!??!!

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven’t been making entries into the blog but I actually had too many ideas in my head at once and could not decide what to write about.  But, are you a failure?  (apparently I decided.)

When I think about it and ask myself that question I would say yes! Yes I am a failure.  But!!!! (There is always a but.) I am a success because of those failures.  If you think about it, Dave Ramsey, Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump, Warren Buffet and many more are really good at failing. But they learned from those failures and learned from those mistakes and failed ventures.  They kept going until they succeeded.

But the good thing is your point of view on the subject.  You might keep on trying at a goal or a group of goals. But never seem to get a step ahead.  One step forward. Two steps back.

”Fear of failure must never be a reason not to try something.”~Frederick Smith

I know it might seem discouraging.  But the main thing in my opinion to become a winner in finance is persistence.  Never give up.  You have this passion in you to do something.  You might not know what.  But honestly it is who you are.  This passion needs to be unleashed in whatever you do.  Some part of your work needs to reflect your passion.  Why? So it doesn’t feel like work.

I have been reading and reading about many different aspects on how to make money.  The more I read the more I realize it is not really hard.  You just need a plan.  The plan is what gets you to win.  I can read till my eyes fall out. It will do myself no good unless I apply it to my life in some way. Every one should have some sort of plan with whatever they are dealing with in life right now!  I mean honestly.

“I want to do this but I keep getting turned down” Sound like you? It sounded like me a while back. If your plan is not working just change a few steps.  Make a detour.  Then get back on that path to your goal.

What would happen if…

You need car repair or you got into an accident?

Children need hospital care?

Kids college is right around the corner?

I am going to be a parent soon?

Water heater broke?

I just got robbed?

and so on and so on… … .

Most of us just don’t think about what if’s and without a plan, it will be just another failure.  Think about it.  Are you ready to protect yourself from what life will bring. Or are you winging it? Leave a comment if you like.  But take care of yourself.

You are not a failure.

You are a winner.

You are a success.

Be smart, be frugal, be a better you.

Richard
